The number of scam complaints in the country has gone up and the government of Ghana has not done much to stop this criminal act. Some TV stations have also decided to fuel this criminal act.
Nowadays our TV stations have been filled with so many advertisements saying people should send them money and they will send back more than 500 percent of the money you sent. They will tell you the money will be immediately received within five to ten minutes after you send the money.
The package ranges from in quote; if you send Ghc100 you will receive Ghc1200, Ghc200 you will receive Ghc2200, Ghc300 will receive Ghc3200, Ghc400 will receive Ghc4200 and Ghc500 will also receive Ghc5200. If you don’t know and you send them the money, you will not hear or talk about getting your money back.
Some TV stations have to give this platform to these scammers to advertise their fraudulent act and scam their cherished viewers who trust the Station. Most people believe what they see on TV and especially showing this on national television will make people think it’s a genuine business. These scammers go to extent of using famous bank names to mention a few, Bank of America, ABSA, and many more in their program to fool their victims to believe it true.
These TV stations don’t only promote banking scammers but also promote people who believe to have powers of charming money or can on rich by joining their occult groups and these people end up scamming their victims.
The Bank of Ghana recently released a press statement addressing the issue of these fraudulent acts by the TV stations and explaining how it’s against the country’s constitution and punishable by law if found guilty. But the question people are asking is what is the government or the NCA doing about this as an institution or are these TV stations above the law?
These TV stations are mostly satellite based stations and here are the list of TV stations promoting scammers.

I personally have received a call from a scammer trying to convince me he is calling from the MTN office and I have won a prize in their ongoing promotion. He took me through the Mobile Money options and asked me if I understand what those options mean. I pretended to be ignorant to see the level this scammer will go.
He talked for about 4 minutes explaining the Momo options and I took my time to listen while he talked plenty. The conversation ended up by saying I have won Ghc60 worth of airtime credit so he is going to send me an authorization to accept with my Momo pin in other to receive the airtime. The authorization came and I canceled it. This scammer called my number more than 18 times but I refused to answer the call.
In this case, if I had not been smarter or knew what this was heading to, I would lose money on my Momo wallet. MTN has done a good job by telling its customers to avoid such calls from scammers that no MTN or employers of MTN will not call anybody to pay before he/she redeem a promotion.
The government of Ghana should act fast to avoid the country’s name dragged in the mud and also prevent this from happening our their sisters and brothers who are ignorant and uneducated.
